Jordan Watts is
reshaping the art world

“On

Never in his wildest dreams did Jordan “Watts" Watson think having good taste would get him this far. He didn’t have some grandiose plan when he began curating art he liked into a singular Instagram feed under the @love.watts moniker. What started as a way for him to organize pieces onto a singular platform has since evolved into a network of well over 3.5 million followers between five accounts, with galleries, curators, and artists alike taking notice.

Offering a refreshing mix of highbrow, lowbrow, experimental and traditional formats, Watts' unique aesthetic and expert curation allows these different styles to flow seamlessly together into a singular feed of enticing content.

While the fine-art world can often feel out of touch and hard for the average person to connect with, Watts’ accessible mix of visuals has introduced it to an entirely new generation. This democratizing of art has also forced people within the art world to take Watts seriously as they look to broaden their own audiences.

"...His willingness to eschew traditional art norms is indicative of his own nontraditional path."

Watts somehow manages to be an insightful voice in the art world while not being encumbered by its biases. Both an expert and an outsider, his willingness to eschew traditional art norms is indicative of his own nontraditional path. Watts didn’t go to school for art, he didn’t work in the art world or adhere to any of the industries traditionally recognized pathways to success.

Although Watson is in high demand and is frequently approached by various brands, museums, and artists, he finds himself saying no to most things, choosing to only work on projects that challenge or excite him. Most recently, his Love Watts team has he’s worked on visuals for Tame Impala’s new project, The Slow Rush, curated an exhibition in collaboration with Instagram for black history month, and sourced artists to create exclusive works for a winter edition of Playboy magazine.

While Watson is enjoying his unique position within the art world, he’s now looking to expand it into something even bigger. He wants to use his platform to empower rising and overlooked artists by making it more about art than the surrounding scene.

Considering how much Watson has already accomplished we’re looking forward to where this new direction will take him.

We spent the afternoon with Watson as he tried on some new FWRD pieces while showing us his beautiful home and the art inside.
