Although Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez met while students at Parsons back in 1998, it wasn't until their senior year that the two collaborated on a project together. After the success of this collection, which was bought in its entirety by Barneys New York, the duo established Proenza Schouler, which takes its name from a combination of each of their mother's maiden names. The first post-graduate collection from Proenza Schouler debuted in 2003 and was labeled one of the top collections that season by Style.com and WWD. Since establishing their line, McCollough and Hernandez have won several awards, including the CFDA/Swarovski Perry Ellis Award for Ready-to-Wear, CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, and the CFDA Womenswear Designer of the Year award in 2007. Known for an edgy take on luxury, the designer duo reinterprets classic pieces to fit the modern woman.
